The menace of fake drugs

A recent report from the World Health Organization discusses the problem of fake drugs. The report highlights how fake medicines are quite common especially in low and middle income economies. They estimate that roughly 10% of medicines in circulation in poorer countries may be fake. The implications on the health of the public, transmission and control of diseases and antibiotic resistance is huge. Regulatory mechanisms to track fake medicines are not always available.
