We are now (hopefully) ready to move ahead with our research.
At this stage, I prefer looking at the variables I may want to study as part of the research. This is one part that I do take notes on when I am reviewing the literature. I take notes on the variables other investigators studied and try to understand why they studied particular variables. How did that help them answer their research questions? This is an integral part of the review of the literature. We often focus only on the research question and the results (and conclusion) when we review the literature. I will recommend taking time to understand the variables (what, how, when, why) that investigators studied. That provides very valuable information.
I am sharing a few thoughts on variables that can guide you through the development of your research protocol.
